Your question

If I want to hire a worker for only 7 hours per day for 5 days per week. Am I allowed to pay only the hourly rate?

Yes. For a worker engaged for 7 hours per day over 5 days, the supplied provisions permit remuneration to be set by the hour. The worker would work 35 ordinary hours per week, which is within the Act’s maximum of 45 hours per week and 9 hours per day for employees working five days or fewer. 14

If you pay an hourly rate, the weekly pay is calculated by multiplying that rate by the ordinary hours worked each week. Any overtime must be agreed and paid at not less than one and one-half times the hourly basic wage. 12
