Your question
Leave days in a year
Under section 23 of the Labour Act, an employee is entitled to at least four consecutive weeks of annual leave with full remuneration during each 12-month annual leave cycle.16
The number of leave days is based on the employee’s ordinary work week: 20 working days for a five-day work week and 24 working days for a six-day work week. If the employee does not ordinarily work a fixed number of days per week, the entitlement is calculated using the average number of days worked.12
The Labour Act controls over subordinate regulations. Therefore, the 24 working days stated in the 2025 regulations cannot reduce or override the Act’s minimum entitlement, although it corresponds to four weeks for an employee ordinarily working six days per week.13
